i found this journal last night when i was re-arranging my books and papers...
this is a COLLEGE STUDY SKILL's first journal that i had submitted to my beloved lecturer, miss Sally...about a year ago..
it's quite funny when i read it all over again.. i just cant believe that i actually wrote this and worst i sent this journal to my lecturer!
oh my God. There are so many things that I wanted to write. Where should I start?
25th May 2009.The first day I step my foot on UiTM…. I was so nervous plus excited plus scared. I was nervous particularly because I would not have my mom and my best friends behind me anymore to save me whenever I need them to- duh. I was excited totally, because I cannot wait to get bonded with the language I love, English. And I was so scared knowing the possibilities for me to screw up my life, God forbid.
At about 2 pm my parents along with my grandparents and my auntie – so many escorts, yea- left me alone in my room at Mawar College. So, there I was, all by myself. I am very very thankful for having such wonderful roommates, Fafa and Aina. Fafa’s full name is Fatin Nabila. There are a few other girls have the exact name as hers, so we call her Fafa instead. Aina on the other hand, have such a unique and lovely name, Kamar Aina. All her siblings have the similar first name, Kamar. So sweet….
After hanging around with different people during MMS – it’s an orientation programme conducted by respected seniors which stands for Minggu Mesra Siswa. I realized that there are so many interesting people around me. The amazing thing is, I could differentiate and identify which person is taking which courses. There are these patterns where, law students; high profile and talkative, engineering students; low profile but brilliant, sciences students; normal typical teenagers and tesl students; stylish. However, I am not always right…
Until now, week two, I do not think that I have got myself friends that could possibly be my best friends, yet. I have three schoolmates here ; Ezani, Adawiyah and Syazwan. There is also a friend from PLKN- national service programme- Yusrho. I am having a hard time getting new friends because I am having trouble remembering and recognising their names and faces. I felt so bad and guilty when suddenly this person came and greets me and called out my name but I could only response to them with a smile. I do not remember their names and not even who they are. But, as much as I wanted to have lots of friends, I do not think this could be a huge problem, because I know eventually as time passed I will recognise some, one day, soon I hope…
Next in line is (drumming sound)……. Food! I have packed two packets of instant noodles, a dozen of soft drinks, a box of mineral water and some snacks. These are for emergencies ONLY! I am acknowledge that the instant noodles are not essential for my brain so I am trying my best to avoid them and so far so good. The food at my college is okay. But the drinks especially, juices are fresh and nice… The food court at section 2, are okay too, but I do not have much choice in terms of food variety although it seemed like a hundred of stalls there! The menus are all the same… Boring…. The cafĂ© at the faculty at section 17 however is much nicer. Thank God for that. Fast food? I had Kentucky Fried Chicken, McDonald and Dunkin’ Donuts during the first week… It was actually out of my budget track so, red lights…. Stop.
After about two weeks experiencing living in the hostel, the one thing I could say is that, it was very HOT. Not sexy hot, but climate hot. Definitely an evidence of major global warming. Mother Earth is rebelling! I would wake up in the morning sweating, yuks. Another thing is, mosquitoes. They were like having late night parties every night. Naughty mosquitoes! We could not sleep that much but tired conquers all, we slept eventually.
The next thing is, the transportations experiences. Funny, funny, and funny. Frankly, my friends and I were dummies around Shah Alam so, being lost around here was nothing… we could only laugh and learn from it. For the first few days, we did not even know where exactly we were in UiTM… So on our first weekend, we ride on each busses that we saw; t601, t602, t603, t604, t529 and many more. We sat on the bus until it reach the point where we boarded the bus earlier. And that was how it goes until we had the courage to start exploring the places. We wanted to ‘get to know’ the commuter, so we bought tickets to Subang Jaya and off we went to Sunway Pyramid! Girls will always be girls…. What a wonderful day!
So, overall, this was an interesting chapter of my life which I am sure that it was just the smallest part of the beginning of my college life as a university student and eventually an independent young woman. Some of it was exciting, some are not. But, I kept reminding myself that this is the reality and it is becoming my life.
Until next time….
please excuse some of the grammatical error...hehe.
